Putin says U.S. is "Parasite" on Global Economy

By Maria Tsvetkova

August 01, 2011 (Reuters) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin accused the United States Monday of living beyond its means "like a parasite" on the global economy and said dollar dominance was a threat to the financial markets.

"They are living beyond their means and shifting a part of the weight of their problems to the world economy," Putin told the pro-Kremlin youth group Nashi while touring its lakeside summer camp some five hours drive north of Moscow.

"They are living like parasites off the global economy and their monopoly of the dollar," Putin said at the open-air meeting with admiring young Russians in what looked like early campaigning before parliamentary and presidential polls.

US President Barack Obama earlier announced a last-ditch deal to cut about $2.4 trillion from the U.S. deficit over a decade, avoid a crushing debt default and stave off the risk that the nation's AAA credit rating would be downgraded.

The deal initially soothed anxieties and led Russian stocks to jump to three-month highs, but jitters remained over the possibility of a credit downgrade.

"Thank god," Putin said, "that they had enough common sense and responsibility to make a balanced decision."

But Putin, who has often criticized the United States' foreign exchange policy, noted that Russia holds a large amount of U.S. bonds and treasuries.

"If over there (in America) there is a systemic malfunction, this will affect everyone," Putin told the young Russians.

"Countries like Russia and China hold a significant part of their reserves in American securities ... There should be other reserve currencies."

U.S.-Russian ties soured during Putin's 2000-2008 presidency but have warmed significantly since his protégé and successor President Dmitry Medvedev responded to Obama's stated desire for a "reset" in bilateral relations.

Mr Putin, with all due respect, please, next time, add a word or two about the second biggest hoax in the last 100 years, the 9/11 official story.

@ r_i_d: The article is about the US and its function as a global parasite, it has nothing to do with 9/11. This constant bleating about an event which will probably never be acknowledged just diverts attention from the real goal. Have you never heard of the boy who cried "Wolf!"?

There is a lot of unanswered questions about the events surrounding 9/11. Unfortunately by the time the whole truth comes out most of American won't care. We seem to be a nation that forget quickly. NoI We won't forget the 3,000 +dead and the attacks but we will forget the importance of knowing the whole truth. This is the way America works.

Putin is lumping together Rusia and China, when the former has no financial interests in the US dollar as opposed to our Chinese creditors who buy our bonds. He is stating a truth, but why? Is he suggesting a Chinese-Russian currency for the world to invest in? Chavez has his own plans of a South American currency, although he has good economic relations with the Chinese and has bought some weapons from Russia. What can Russia offer? And, will the European investors, who compose more than 50% of foreign investment in the US, decide to divest their dollars and invest in... what? yens? I know nothing about this subject, so I hope someone posts something.

@ Uganda,____Denis Kucinich could be our Gorbachov. But he's not tall, and is unhandsome. What a pity. Come to DC Oct. 6th, and fight.

The US has, since WWII, known that it could support it's standard of living at the expense of other 'weaker' states. It was a cognisant descision. As such, any state that looked like it may threaten this was disposed of and/or eploited to that end. To say this simply in response to the current world economy and it's woes (and one need only look at all recessions, including the great depression, to see that the US had, if not the main part, a major role in them all). Perhaps Putin should look at diverging from the global economy as China is looking to do (and which the EU is trying futily to do).

Putin is a strong and clever leader who tells the truth. Obama is intelligent and smooth operator who is weak and lies with every breath.

The world is weakened by the infestation of bloodsuckers known as USUKisrael.
